so we get to the gig late. we're always late...but worth the wait. we missed the first band. second band to go on...My Better Half. what can i say? xcept we sure did pick out the band members. we have that gift. oh yeah. so back to the band~genre? punk. poppy punk. but not like that shit played on 92.1. these guys were nice on the eyes. there's something about guys with spiky black hair and smudged black eyeliner. and piercings and sleeves(tats). and the red and black combination. can't forget the chucks. the guitarist was rocking the chucks. he was too pretty for me. they had lots of energy. catchy tunes. i was actually enjoying their set. usually i'm checking my watch...hoping the band rushes through their songs. the pretty guitarist gave me a cd. i think it had something to do with me taking his picture. coincidence? i think not.

we decided to take our places against the wall. thank god for couches. it gave me an opportunity to people watch. people watching in l.a. it's wonderful. we could hear the guys setting up on stage. i was sooo tempted to lift the curtain. i couldn't do it.

i wasn't feeling the music the dj was spinning. i wanted a dancing partner. note to self: find a dancing partner.

so...the lights go out, the curtain rises and the portable regulars start to cheer. i've got my camera ready...praying the batteries won't die...hoping the date is correct(it wasn't). note to self: don't lend out your camera. i've got a PERFECT VIEW of gus and brian. woo hoo! chance and his new hair...i like it. a low maintanence cut. it suits him well. and the shoes! he was rocking the old skool vans. gotta love that!

here's the setlist i took from gus.

KING
ALLOVER
STAY
AUTOMATIC
SUFFOCATE
LRP
HELP
CASSIE
M.O.M.
REST.

KOTM sure kicks ass. great way to start out the show. it was cool to finally sing along. i like AUTOMATIC. don't know why...i just do. it's always great to hear SUFFOCATE and HELP YOURSELF. i totally dig those tunes live. the highlight for me was RESTRAINT. they played their usual encore. it was a little different this time. relatively no male involvement. that sucks cos then chance can't dive into the audience. there was only one guy carrying him. here comes the exciting part...a drunk fan decides to jump on the guys. i thought, OH MAH GAWD! i hope no one gets hurt. *no injuries*

we chatted a bit with sebastian. checked out his new shoes. grey with red stripes? couldn't tell with the lighting.

chance was running around selling cds. he did manage to stop and say hello. i don't understand how these guys talk to everyone. it must be exhausting.

the last band comes on. kuffs? don't remember. i think we stayed for two songs? they were okay. nothing to write home about. i was on a mission. i needed to find a band member. i HAD to buy eddy's cd. woo hoo. found gus. he took me outside. sebastian and chance were schmoozing with some peeps. and it was raining! and i was the only dumbass without a jacket. i did consider dancing in the rain...but i didn't want to dance alone. that's no fun. so i buy a cd from my favorite martian. he knows i love his band. and i stood in the rain for portable. i'm dedicated. and i've lost track of how many cds i've bought. sorry eddy. no autographs. there's still hope. the new EP. keep your fingers crossed.
